Kirkland Police Patches Go Pink to Support Cancer Awareness

For the fifth consecutive year, the Kirkland Police Department is participating in the Pink Patch Project. This October, KPD joins law enforcement agencies nationwide in raising awareness about cancer, supporting research for cancer organizations, and supporting families during cancer treatment.

Houghton Beach Reopened for Water Activities

Houghton Beach has been reopened as of today, September 30 for swimming, wading and other water activities, by recommendation of Public Health – Seattle & King County. The beach had been closed to swimming since September 9 due to elevated bacteria levels.

People and Pets Should Stay Out of the Water at Houghton Beach

As of 4 p.m. on September 23, 2025, Public Health – Seattle & King County is recommending that people and pets stay out of the water at the swimming areas of Houghton Beach Park for at least one week due to elevated bacteria levels. Signs will be positioned to indicate that people and pets should stay out of the water. The rest of Houghton Beach Park remains open.
