KIRKLAND, Wash. – The City of Kirkland invites the community to celebrate the opening of the Crabby Old Pharts Pea Patch at Rose Hill Meadows park, a new community garden created through a generous bequest from the late Larry Miller. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at noon on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 8046 124th Ave NE in Kirkland. Community members are invited to attend, enjoy brief remarks, and explore the garden.
This new garden honors the legacy of Larry Miller, who bequeathed his home and property to the City of Kirkland with the request that the land be used for community gardens and carry the distinctive name, “Crabby Old Pharts Pea Patch.”
The Crabby Old Pharts Pea Patch features 46 community garden plots, including accessible gardening spaces, providing new opportunities for residents to grow food, connect with neighbors, and enjoy the benefits of gardening in a shared space.
“This project is a wonderful example of how parks and community spaces bring people together,” said Parks and Community Services Director Lynn Zwaagstra. “We’re excited to open this new garden and see how the community makes it their own.”
