Tree Removal and Replanting at Peter Kirk Park - February 2026
The poplar trees planted along Central Way in the early 1980s have reached the end of their natural lifespan. For the safety of park visitors and neighbors, the remaining 15 trees were removed the week of February 16-20, 2026. The City is committed to maintaining and expanding a healthy tree canopy and is replacing these trees at a 3-to-1 ratio, planting 45 new trees. While space in Peter Kirk Park is limited, we will replant as many as possible within the park. Additional trees will be placed throughout the Kirkland park system.
Upgrades Coming to Peter Kirk Park - December 2025
- The tennis courts will be converted to six new pickleball courts with seating in the spring of 2026.
- The skate park will be expanded to incorporate favorite elements from the Houghton Park & Play.
- We look forward to bringing these new features to the community in 2026.
