Which fields are included in this project?
The project includes two existing ballfields: Ballfield #4 at Crestwoods Park Ballfield #1 at 132nd Square Park The project will convert the infields of these two fields to synthetic turf. The outfields will remain natural grass.
Why is the City converting the infields to synthetic turf?
Synthetic turf infields can provide more consistent playing conditions and allow fields to recover more quickly following wet weather. The improvements are intended to increase field availability and provide reliable playing surfaces for Kirkland’s growing recreational needs.
Why were these two fields selected?
The City completed a feasibility study in 2025 to evaluate converting the infields at Crestwoods Park Ballfield #4 and 132nd Square Park Ballfield #1 to synthetic turf. The study considered existing site conditions, drainage, field configuration and other factors associated with converting the fields. Following the study, the Kirkland City Council approved moving forward with design for both locations in October 2025.
Will the entire fields be synthetic turf?
No. Only the infields will be converted to synthetic turf. The existing natural grass outfields will remain. What type of synthetic turf and infill will be used? The specific turf system and infill material will be determined during the design process. The City will evaluate available materials and system requirements as the design progresses.
Will the fields close during construction?
Yes. Each field will need to close temporarily while the improvements are constructed. Specific closure dates and anticipated construction durations will be shared once the construction schedule is established.
When will construction begin?
The project is currently in the design phase. Construction timing will be posted on this webpage as the project progresses and schedules are confirmed.
