Peter Kirk Park Skate Park 30% Design

Thank you to everyone who participated in our community outreach this spring. Community feedback helped shape the initial concept design for the Peter Kirk Park Skate Park expansion. Based on this feedback, our design consultant has completed the 30% concept design. The current concept would expand the skate park from approximately 4,500 square feet to more than 10,000 square feet, creating significantly more space for skaters of all ages and skill levels.

Tree Removal and Replanting at Peter Kirk Park - February 2026

The poplar trees planted along Central Way in the early 1980s have reached the end of their natural lifespan. For the safety of park visitors and neighbors, the remaining 15 trees were removed the week of February 16-20, 2026. The City is committed to maintaining and expanding a healthy tree canopy and is replacing these trees at a 3-to-1 ratio, planting 45 new trees. While space in Peter Kirk Park is limited, we will replant as many as possible within the park. Additional trees will be placed throughout the Kirkland park system.

Park Donations

Donating funds to a park is a wonderful way to show appreciation for Kirkland, to honor someone special, or to commemorate a milestone. Park benches and tables are the most popular items to donate, however other donations are possible as well, like those for trees or landscape, for general park maintenance, towards public art or other site amenities (i.e. water fountains), and even towards the tools and equipment needed to keep Kirkland’s parks beautiful.

Skate Park Update - June 2026

Thank you to everyone who participated in our community outreach this spring. Community feedback helped shape the initial concept design for the Peter Kirk Park Skate Park expansion. The most common priorities identified by participants included:

  1. More open space for riding and maneuvering
  2. Features that are welcoming for beginner and intermediate skaters
  3. Improved safety, circulation, and overall park flow

Based on this feedback, our design consultant has completed the 30% concept design. The current concept would expand the skate park from approximately 4,500 square feet to more than 10,000 square feet, creating significantly more space for skaters of all ages and skill levels.

The concept includes a mix of street-style features such as manual pads, curbs, ledges, banks, and a halfpipe, while maintaining open areas that improve circulation and allow multiple users to enjoy the park at the same time. This project remains in the design phase, and the concepts shown are preliminary and subject to change as design progresses.
