The City of Kirkland is dedicated to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and reviews employees’ voluntarily self-identified demographic information which is collected during employee on-boarding. This information helps the City understand our employee composition which allows us to create data driven plans to expand diversity initiatives, hiring practices, and look for ways to ensure employee retention through inclusion and belonging programs. The first step is to understand our current demographics.
In the below charts, you will find information on the City of Kirkland’s employee demographic information for 2020 and 2021. It is important to note that this information is reflective of the employee’s self-reporting and that it encompasses all occupied positions during the reporting timeframe. There are times when two or more employees may occupy the same position within the year.
This Human Resources dashboard was created in response to Resolution R-5434, which was adopted by the City Council in August 2020 to ensure the safety and respect of Black people and dismantle structural racism in Kirkland. Section 1 of R-5434 calls for the development of public dashboards to allow the community and the Council to understand how the City as an organization is performing.
