Types of Containers

Waste Management provides containers and schedules collections for commercial accounts. Please call them at 1-800-592-9995 for additional information.

Billing Information

The City of Kirkland will send you a bill for the prior two months of garbage service. If you have water or sewer through the City, these charges will also appear on this same bill. Bills are due 30 days from the billing date. Late payments have a 10% penalty added to the balance. Any rental charges for containers will be billed separately by Waste Management.

Converting a per occurrence rate to a monthly charge

If you have subscribed to a single occurrence service as part of your garbage service, for the purposes of billing the conversion of the weekly fee to a monthly charge is calculated by multiplying the per-occurrence rate by 4.333 (weeks per month).

 

Rates 

Water

Water rates are measured in "units." A unit is approximately 750 gallons or 100 cubic feet. Billing is for a two-month period.  A City of Kirkland utility tax of 13.38 percent is added to all water service fees and is listed separately on your bi-monthly utility bill. KMC 5.08.050

Sewer

Commercial sewer rates are based on water consumption.  A City of Kirkland utility tax of 10.5 percent is added to all sewer service fees and is listed separately on your bi-monthly utility bill. KMC 5.08.050

Garbage

Commercial customers may opt to forego Waste Management-provided recycling service (provided at no additional cost*) and contract independently for recycling service through another recycling collection service provider.

A City of Kirkland utility tax of 10.5 percent is added to all solid waste service fees and is listed separately on your bi-monthly utility bill. KMC 5.08.050 

King County Board of Health requires hazardous waste fees from every solid waste account (Code of the King County Board of Health 2.08.090, RCW 70.05.060 and RCW 70.105.220). The hazardous waste fee is based on your specific service level. Tiered fees were implemented to more fairly reflect garbage volumes.

2022 hazardous waste monthly fees:

  • Small (up to 96 gallons): $1.80
  • Medium (between 96 gallons & 10 cubic yards): $14.82
  • Large (10 cubic yards or more): $56.96
