Just catching up with my Kirklander, what about you?
Our brand-new printed newsletter is landing in mailboxes across Kirkland this week! The Kirklander is your twice-a-year connection to City updates, safety tips, upcoming events, and stories that celebrate what makes Kirkland special. Keep an eye out, flip through, and let us know what you think!
How can I contact the City with questions, requests, or suggestions?
You can always contact City staff through the Our Kirkland service portal, available on the web and mobile app. Submitting your comments through Our Kirkland ensures the right staff receives the information and can follow up with you.
As e-bikes and other electric-powered cycles become more popular in Kirkland, it’s important for riders, and everyone who shares the road, trails, and sidewalks, to understand the rules and safety tips that go along with them.
Not all e-cycles are the same. Some are allowed on bike lanes and trails, while others are considered motorcycles and require a license, registration, and helmet. Knowing the difference between the various classes of e-bikes and e-motorcycles helps keep everyone safe.
Learn more about the types of e-cycles, where they’re allowed, and how to ride them responsibly on our new reference page: www.kirklandwa.gov/ebikes.
This summer you may notice a few more helpful folks in our parks! The City of Kirkland Parks Department has kicked off the summer season with new seasonal park rangers. The park ranger team includes new full-time park Ranger Scott Rulon and new seasonal rangers Bella, Rory, Tanner, and Lucas (from left to right).
The park ranger program provides customer service to park visitors to ensure a safe, welcoming, and positive experience for all park users in Kirkland’s parks and natural areas.
As ambassadors for Parks and Community Services, park rangers provide education, enforcement, and safety resources around park rules, environmental hazards, and park services. Rangers spend a lot of time in busy areas like the marina and waterfront parks, but you’ll also see them walking trails in our natural areas and green spaces.
Please give them a friendly hello when you see them and be sure to reach out if you need their assistance as they are always happy to chat about our parks!
More information about the program can be found on the City of Kirkland Park Ranger Program website. The park ranger program works in collaboration with Kirkland Parks Management, King County Marine Rescue Dive Unit, and the Kirkland Police Department.

The Lombardy Poplar trees planted to screen the Lee Johnson ballfield at Peter Kirk Park back in the early 1980s are reaching the end of their lives. Poplar trees are well known for their fast growth and short lives. One tree has died and three more are rapidly declining. For the safety of the community, the City plans to remove the dead and dying trees on Monday, August 4, weather permitting. This work is expected to be completed in one day and impacts on traffic flow will be minimal.
Maintaining and increasing the tree canopy in Kirkland's parks and open spaces is a top priority for the Parks and Community Services Department and staff are evaluating options to replace these trees at a three to one ratio elsewhere in our park system.
