(September 11, 2025) -- Repairs on the short, hilly detour closed one of the CKC detour routes this week, but the repairs to that trail on the south side of NE 85th Street are complete and both detour's are again open to trail users. Work on the stormwater system near 6th Street, and wall construction from the bottom of the hill working up will begin in the next few weeks.
(September 4, 2025) -- The CKC detour will be closed on Monday, September 8 and Tuesday, September 9 for sidewalk repairs and stump removal. The detour along 6th Street is unchanged. Drilling went well. Work on the stormwater system near 6th Street will include some additional tree removals.
(August 28, 2025) -- Drilling has begun on the bridge over the CKC trail, and new detour maps are on large signs on-site. A section of the short detour will be paved the week of September 8, and will close the short detour for at least one day.
(August 21, 2025) -- Tree removal stalled today, as the equipment to remove the cottonwood trees requires repair. Tree removal will continue once the equipment is repaired. The short detour will be closed during the final tree work and CKC trail users will be directed to use the primary detour route from 7th Avenue to 6th Street/6th Street South. Drilling is expected to commence the week of August 25. New detour maps will be posted at the closure of the CKC.
(August 14, 2025) -- Drilling equipment will begin to be delivered and placed on site for the bridge over the CKC, with drilling expected to begin August 25.
(August 7, 2025) -- Most of the tree felling is complete, and work is underway to prep for the drilling for the pedestrian bridge over the Cross Kirkland Corridor.
(July 31, 2025) -- Equipment for construction continues to be delivered to the site, and tree felling is expected to continue for a few weeks.
(July 24, 2025) -- Tree felling will commence shortly, which will close some small pathways near the construction zone for safety. The CKC trail remains closed, and two detour's are in place. For the tree felling near the detour, flaggers my be utilized to keep trail users safe during that short time period. Drilling equipment will be delivered to the trail soon to begin building the elevated pedestrian bridge.
(July 17, 2025) -- The CKC trail closure from NE 85-87th Streets begins tomorrow. Guardrail removal on NE 85th Street is underway, and tree felling is expected soon. Project Manager Kimberly Coraza, P.E., presented an update to City Council at it's July 15 meeting.
(July 9, 2025) -- The CKC trail will be closed as early as July 18 for an extended, months-long closure. Detour map is posted to this webpage, and will be on site from July 18. Traffic control on NE 85th Street was installed smoothly, and next noticeable steps besides the trail closure are potholing and tree felling.
(July 3, 2025) -- Work begins Monday on this transformative pathway project. Expect traffic impacts and delays. Nearby streets will see increased traffic.
(June 13, 2025) -- Work is now expected to begin on this project on Monday, July 7. Traffic control will be set that week reducing NE 85th Street to one-lane in each direction for the duration of the project. Tree removal will follow traffic control measures.

(June 5, 2025)-- Staff are preparing for the pre-construction meeting, and expect construction to begin in early summer. One of the first (and most noticeable) tasks will be the tree removal to create the space for the shared-use pathway on the south side of NE 85th Street. The lane reduction of NE 85th Street is expected to begin after the Fourth of July weekend.
