The City of Kirkland is expanding and upgrading its maintenance center campus to improve working conditions, maximize the benefits of the City's resources and prepare for future growth.

The City is currently working on the plan and expects to complete it in mid-2028.

The upgrades include:

  • Security cameras, key-card access
  • Added upper yard-area storage
  • Enlarged fleet wash bay areas
  • Covered storage for winter storm traffic materials (salt, sand)
  • Upgraded lunch, laundry facilities
  • New locker rooms
  • Improved dispatch work area
  • Retrofits for earthquake activity

To achieve the plan's full benefits, City leaders are negotiating the acquisition of a few neighboring properties. Those properties will allow the maintenance center to accommodate future growth. Specifically, they will allow the City to:

  • Improve campus security and protect surrounding environment
  • Invest in electric vehicle charging stations
  • Generate other efficiencies
