UPDATE: 1:41 PM (9/17): The park has been reopened, but the dock remains closed. Please make sure to give the officers space while they conduct their investigation.

UPDATE 9:00 AM (9/17): Houghton Beach Park will continue to be closed this morning while the Kirkland Police investigate last night's shooting. We will provide updates when we have additional information or when the park reopens. We do not believe there is an imminent danger to the community as those involved appear to have known each other. Kirkland, WA – Just after 8:15 PM this evening, Kirkland Police responded to 5811 Lake Washington BLVD NE for a report of a shooting at Houghton Beach Park. When Officers arrived, they located the teenage male victim. He was quickly transported to the hospital where he passed from his injuries.  There were several people in the park at the time.  Witnesses reported the sound of gun shots and saw two males were running from the park. Police searched the area however, both suspects are outstanding. Kirkland Police Investigators have located additional witnesses and evidence which may help in providing a detailed description of the suspects involved. A description of the suspects will be provided once available. The investigation is currently underway and Kirkland Police investigators are asking if you have any information about the shooting please call Detective A. Haas at 425-587-3505.
