Kirkland, WA – Kirkland Police Detectives have arrested a Kirkland man suspected of stealing more than $826,000 from his elderly mother. In April 2025, the Kirkland Police Department (KPD) received a referral from Washington State Adult Protective Services (APS) regarding possible financial abuse of a vulnerable adult. The victim is a resident of a Kirkland retirement facility and had named her adult son as Power of Attorney, which granted him access to her financial accounts. APS received a tip from an extended family member who was concerned about possible misuse of those funds. APS referred the matter to KPD. A KPD Investigator assigned to the case executed a series of warrants for financial records and identified more than $826,000 in funds that had been taken from the victim’s accounts. Following a detailed investigation, KPD Detectives arrested the suspect at his Kirkland residence without incident on July 17, 2025. He was booked into the King County Correctional Facility on charges of Theft in the First Degree from a Vulnerable Adult (Domestic Violence). The case has been forwarded to the King County Prosecutor’s Office for formal charging. The Kirkland Police Department remains committed to protecting seniors and vulnerable adults from exploitation and abuse. If you believe an elderly or vulnerable adult may be experiencing financial exploitation or abuse, please contact the Kirkland Police Department, your local law enforcement agency, or Adult Protective Services. Early reporting can prevent further harm and help protect those most vulnerable.
