The first Kirkland Ca$h program ended June 30 and supported local hotels and businesses with nearly 700 Kirkland Ca$h certificates generated from hotel stays from April through June 2022. This added up to more than $17,000 in community currency certificates issued to benefit local businesses.

“We launched Kirkland Ca$h with the goal of helping local businesses impacted by the pandemic,” said Deputy Mayor Jay Arnold. “Now with its success, the program can serve as a long-term tool for not only supporting small businesses, but other city programs where we might incorporate the Kirkland-only currency.”

The Kirkland Ca$h program supports local hotels and small businesses through a tourism incentive promotion called “You Stay, We Pay.” The program incentivized overnight stays at participating hotels in the City by giving Kirkland Ca$h certificates to hotel guests who booked during the promotion period. These certificates function as cash at any of the more than 100 participating businesses in the Kirkland Ca$h program, including boutiques, wine bars, spas, nail salons, restaurants and more. Kirkland Ca$h can only be spent at participating businesses in the City of Kirkland.

Though the program wrapped up on June 30, Kirkland Ca$h certificates can be redeemed at any participating businesses through August 31, 2022.

Kirkland Ca$h certificates for the “You Stay, We Pay” program were made possible from federal funds through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
