I-405/Northeast 85th Street Interchange and Inline BRT Station Project

WSDOT, Sound Transit, and design-build contractor Graham Contracting, Ltd. are working to reconstruct and improve the I-405/Northeast 85th Street interchange. This project design supports Sound Transit's Stride Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), improves transit connections on Northeast 85th Street, and provides direct access to the I-405 Express Toll Lanes (ETLs).

Updates

(Aug. 8, 2024) - NE 85th Street between Kirkland Way/114th Ave NE and 120th Ave NE will be closed in both directions overnight for three nights this weekend. As early as 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 to 5 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10,  as early as 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 to 5 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, and as early as 11 pm. Sunday, Aug. 11 to 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12.

(July 27, 2024) - NE 85th Street to be closed this weekend at I-405.  The on/off ramps are closed as well.  Expect delays throughout the City.  Expected opening 4 a.m. Monday.  The Junior Softball World Series is taking place at Everest Park this weekend as well.

(Apr 15, 2024) - NE 87th Street will be closed for a water vault and waterline installation. The full closure is currently scheduled for April 12 through May 5.

(Jan 29, 2024) - Planned closure work is complete and the area is reopen for travel. The way you travel around the area will be different. Please drive carefully and cautiously as you learn how to navigate these changes.

(Jan 27, 2024) -  Work is currently on schedule for the Northeast 85th Street and I-405 interchange closure happening this weekend. This morning, crews started demolishing the ramps at I-405 and installing the new temporary signals. Traffic control officers and flaggers are posted around the closure and on key intersections along the signed detour routes. WSDOT is seeing congestion along the detour route, so avoid travel or plan for increased travel times.More information.
