Neighborhood Safety Program projects

Schematics of Upcoming Neighborhood Safety Program Projects
The City of Kirkland is completing six Neighborhood Safety Program projects from the 2021(PDF, 14MB) and 2023(PDF, 15MB) programs.

WHAT: A Kirkland contractor is planning to begin construction in January on a pair of new crosswalks near 132nd Square Park and on 124th Avenue Northeast, at Northeast 104th Street.

Blackfish Civil Infrastructure will complement both new crosswalks with sets of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons.

On 132nd Avenue Northeast, north of Northeast 129th Place, the contractor's crews will build new new curb ramps. At 124th Avenue Northeast, Blackfish will upgrade the curb ramp on the east side of the crosswalk and build a new one on the west side.

Blackfish is planning for the crosswalks to be in-use in summer 2025. Crews will likely have completed most of the work by then. However, the project includes several small sections of street paving, which requires warm weather.

WHEN: Crews work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Crews are preparing the site now. Community members should expect traffic delays around the work site.

LOCALLY SOURCED: These crosswalk improvements are two of six Neighborhood Safety Program projects that Kirkland’s contractor will be building throughout the next six months. The other four are:

  • Rapid Flashing Beacons at 124th Avenue Northeast, north of Northeast 142nd Place and near the Kingsgate Library (contractor plans underground work in February; and to have it operational in March)
  • Rapid Flashing Beacons at Lake Street South and 10th Avenue South (contractor plans to begin work in February and complete the project at the end of March)
  • Asphalt walkway at Northeast 80th Street and 126th Avenue Northeast asphalt walkway (contractor plans to complete in February)
  • Asphalt walkway at Seventh Avenue; between Third and Fourth streets (contractor plans to complete by March)

All projects derive from residents, who proposed them and advocated for them through the 2021 Neighborhood Safety Program.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Community members should expect intermittent traffic delays around the work sites.
