Everest Greenway

The City of Kirkland is planning in fall to begin construction on a project near Everest Park that will calm traffic and improve conditions for walking and bicycling.

To achieve this, the Everest Greenway project will implement a series of way-finding and traffic-calming features along Eighth Street South and Ninth Avenue South, between Kirkland Avenue and Sixth Street South.

Those features include crosswalks, buffered bicycle lanes, and a conversion of speed humps to speed cushions — humps that include bypass cuts for the wheels of emergency vehicles.

The Everest Greenway will convert 20 on-street parking spots along Ninth Avenue South into buffered bicycle lanes.

That area is indicated by the red line on the map, at right, and in further detail on the illustration on the back page of this document.

WHEN: The City is tentatively planning to begin construction in after September and to complete it by February.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Community members should expect intermittent traffic delays and typical construction noise.
