The following tips are intended to assist Kirkland residents and visitors in deterring and preventing common types of crime.

Community Police Academy is taught by Kirkland police officers and department staff, each with a different area of expertise such as Investigations, SWAT, Use of Force, Traffic, the Community Resource Officer Program and our K-9 unit. Instruction combines in-class lectures with hands-on activities including live training simulations and a mock investigation scenario.

Body-Worn Camera Program

The City Council implemented a body-worn camera program in order to increase both community and officer safety. On July 5, 2022, Council adopted Ordinance O-4796 enacting a new chapter of the Kirkland Municipal Code restricting use of facial recognition technology and authorizing use of Police Body Worn Cameras. Thank you to those community members who gave their input on these policies.
