On April 29, 2026, the Seattle Kraken and the City of Kirkland announced the plans for a new iceplex and community center in KirklandThe facility will include

  • Two NHL-regulation ice rinks 
  • A City-operated community center
  • A full-service public restaurant
  • A team store
  • Space for community programs, events, and activities 

The project will deliver a new, year-round community destination that combines recreation, economic development, and public amenities — with no new taxes. The agreements between the City and Seattle Kraken ensure public protections for the duration of the partnership and ultimate City ownership at the end of the 34-year lease.

Community Benefits

Recreation and Community Access
  • Creates what would become Kirkland’s largest community center, including flexible program rooms and fitness space.
  • Every Kirkland resident will receive two hours of free open skate each month, ensuring broad public access. 
  • Discounted programming will be available for low-income and vulnerable populations through the One Roof Foundation, aligning with City welcoming values. 
  • Community events, youth programs, and seasonal activities will be hosted throughout the year. 
  • Brings a full-service restaurant to an area with few dining options.

Economic Benefits
  • Estimated to generate $7 million annually in economic activity for Kirkland and the Eastside.
  • Generates local jobs and ongoing economic activity.
  • Attracts new visitors to support nearby businesses.
  • Help catalyze future investments in the NE 85th Street Station Area to support the City’s long-term vision to create a vibrant, walkable, transit-oriented district.
Women's and Youth Sports Leadership
  • Potential home of the Seattle Torrent, expanding professional women's sports in Kirkland. 
  • Builds on Kirkland's strong legacy of youth and women's athletics, including hosting the Junior League Softball World Series.
  • Supports access to sports, recreation, and wellness for all ages.
