2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Support

The City of Kirkland welcomes and celebrates the two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual plus (2SLGBTQIA+) community, affirming their right and dignity to live authentically, safely, and without fear of discrimination or harm. The City is committed to fostering a community where all individuals are treated with dignity, equity, and respect, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
In 2025, the City Council recently passed Resolution R-5686, which states:
"...the City of Kirkland stands strong in its Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) values to be a welcoming, inclusive, and safe place no matter a person's sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, especially people that identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ and does not tolerate homophobic and transphobic violence..."

The City also shows its pride through installing its first Pride crosswalk modeled after the intersex-inclusive progress flag and by lighting up the Totem Lake Connector Bridge throughout June in rainbow lights since 2023, with both intended as symbols of love, hope, inclusion and welcoming for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
The City collaborates with Eastside Pride PNW and Pride Across the Bridge for insight and guidance related to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Kirkland.
Past Events
Since 2014, the City of Kirkland has proclaimed the month of June as “Pride Month” in Kirkland. Pride is celebrated year-round throughout the country and typically in June to commemorate the Stonewall Riots of June 28, 1969, which was a catalyst to the gay rights movement nationwide and worldwide.
