A full southbound I-405 closure is planned from Friday, May 29 until the morning of Monday, June 1, weather permitting. Why is this closure happening? Crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will make progress on fish passage restoration, which is part of the larger I-405/NE 85th Street Interchange and Inline BRT Station Project.

What’s happening: Southbound I-405 in Kirkland will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday, May 29 to 4 a.m. Monday, June 1. Lane reductions will start as early as 8 p.m. on Friday. Signed detours will be in place. Both the NE 116th Street and NE 85th Steet on-ramps to southbound I-405 will be closed.

Here’s the closure schedule:

  • From 11 p.m. Friday, May 29 to 6 a.m. Saturday, May 30: Southbound I-405 will close from NE 124th Street to N 70th Place. The NE 124th Street on-ramp to southbound I-405 will also be closed.
  • From 6 a.m. Saturday, May 30 to 4 a.m. Monday, June 1: Southbound I-405 will close from NE 85th Street to N 70th Place. Travelers continuing on southbound I-405 can detour east or west from the NE 85th Street off-ramp by following the signed detour routes.

Tips: Expect significant congestion on local roads in Kirkland this weekend. We encourage community members to plan ahead, complete shopping trips early, and use alternate modes of travel.
