KIRKLAND, Wash. – Whether you’re kayaking, paddleboarding, birdwatching, or simply enjoying the view, we all love Kirkland’s amazing lakes and streams.
Kirkland’s 2025 Draft Stormwater Management Program Plan outlines key steps to protect our local waters and reduce pollution, both now and for the future. The City invites community members to share feedback on water quality concerns, flood prevention, or ideas for keeping our lakes and streams healthy by February 24, 2025.
“Clean lakes, healthy streams, and safe drinking water start with all of us,” said Councilmember John Tymczyszyn. “The City is dedicated to protecting our creeks, lakes, and wetlands to support a healthy environment for everyone—people and wildlife alike. Your input helps shape the work we do, so please take a look at the plan and let us know what matters most to you.”
Stormwater pollution is one of the biggest impacts to Kirkland’s waterways, as our stormwater system drains into our local lakes and streams. Everyday activities—like driving, yard care, pet waste, and car washing—can introduce harmful pollutants into our waterways. The City works year-round to prevent pollution by treating runoff and maintaining critical drainage systems, but we can’t do it alone.
The 2025 Draft Stormwater Plan details steps the City takes, including:
- Educating the community on natural yard care and vehicle maintenance
- Preventing and cleaning up spills before they reach our waterways
- Reviewing development plans to minimize pollution at construction sites
- Maintaining the City’s network of stormwater pipes, ditches, and ponds
Tell us what matters most to you. What concerns do you have? What solutions do you want to see?
