Case/Incident #23-26932/23-26951

Kirkland, WA – On Monday, July 31, just before midnight, Kirkland Police Department (KPD) patrol officers responded to a car accident reported in Kirkland’s Highlands neighborhood in the 11100 block of NE 100th St.

At the scene of the collision officers found a vehicle crashed into a tree. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Seattle earlier that day. A male driver was visibly armed with a firearm. While officers attempted to de-escalate the situation to safely take him into custody, the suspect was able to re-start the vehicle and fled the scene. Officers found evidence that led them to believe the suspect was a convicted felon who was illegally in possession of the firearm.

After fleeing the scene, the suspect allegedly broke into a nearby home, stole a laptop, other items, and another vehicle. The homeowner was able to track their stolen laptop to the suspect’s address in Seattle.

KPD detectives worked with Seattle PD to recover the stolen vehicle. The KPD Pro-Act unit and detectives located the suspect near his Seattle apartment and arrested him without incident. Police also found stolen items from the Kirkland home and the gun displayed earlier that night. The suspect was booked for possessing a stolen vehicle, burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm, among other charges.

KPD would like to thank Seattle PD for their assistance in this case.
