Kirkland Police Department Deputy Chief Todd Aksdal graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, on March 16, 2023. Aksdal joined 246 other law enforcement officers from 47 states and the District of Columbia.

“Deputy Chief Aksdal’s strong leadership skills and 26 years of law enforcement experience qualified him to be a part of this prestigious program,” said Kirkland Police Chief Cherie Harris. “Our community will benefit from his added knowledge and training to help KPD continue to keep Kirkland safe.”

The National Academy, internationally known for its academic excellence, features 10 weeks of advanced communications, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as law enforcement professionals to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of experience and often return to their agencies in executive-level positions.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to both advance my professional training and establish partnerships with other law enforcement leaders at the National Academy,” said Deputy Chief Aksdal. “This training and these relationships will be very helpful moving forward in my service to the Kirkland community.”

FBI Director Christopher Asher Wray delivered remarks at the ceremony. FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees and international reputations provided training.

A total of 54,154 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. This was the 285th session of the National Academy and included law enforcement from 28 countries, four military branches, and five federal civilian organizations.

The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.
