Prepare for Community Celebrations Across the City of Kirkland

National Night Out on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, is a nationwide campaign meant to enhance relationships between communities and first responders, while promoting crime prevention, neighborhood camaraderie and police-community partnerships.

Every year, on the first Tuesday in August, millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases around the world. Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, cookouts and other community events with safety demonstrations, kids’ events, exhibits and much more. In addition to block parties, National Night Out provides an opportunity to interact with Kirkland’s law enforcement, fire service professionals and City Council.

“National Night Out provides a great opportunity to gather with others in the spirit of mutual support and public safety,” said Councilmember Toby Nixon.  “We encourage people throughout Kirkland to plan events on August 2 and get to know your neighbors: an important step toward building safe communities.”

“We are excited to meet with our neighbors once again on National Night Out,” said Kirkland Police Chief Cherie Harris. “Our officers know how important it is to be out in the community to build those relationships, not only on National Night Out, but every day of the year.”

If you would like to request City Council, police, corrections, and/or firefighters at your block party on private property, fill out the National Night Out First Responder Request Form. Members of City Council and first responders from the Kirkland Police and Fire Departments attend community events between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. While police and fire personnel will make every effort to attend your event if invited, please note that the availability of the City's first responders depends on emergency call volume.

Events that include a road closure require a permit. To request a road closure, submit a National Night Out Block Party Permit Application. Block party fees will be waived for National Night Out events held on August 2, 2022. A completed application must be received by July 18, 2022, no less than 10 business days prior to the event, and applicants must live on the street to be closed and serve as the event contact.
