Case/Incident #2019-25102

Kirkland, WA – Just before 6:30 this morning, Kirkland Police were called to a disturbance near the Dania Furniture Store in the 12200blk of Ne 116th St. Officers were informed that a male subject was holding an eighteen-month old boy and threatening to harm or kill the child.

Officers were able to contact the male in a wooded area just east of I-405.  The suspect was holding the child tightly in his arms as officers began a dialogue with the individual. Officers had been on scene for approximately an hour when the suspects actions toward the child heightened, and an officer was forced to intervene by shooting the suspect to prevent immediate harm to the child.

The child was transported to be medically evaluated as a precaution, and the suspect was deceased at the scene. Kirkland Police have asked the King County Sheriff’s Office to conduct the investigation as an outside agency. Investigators will be on scene throughout the afternoon as the investigation continues.
