KIRKLAND, Wash. – Kirkland Parks and Community Services will be hosting their first annual January Jump! Polar Bear Plunge event at Houghton Beach Park in Kirkland on Saturday, January 22, 2022, from noon to 2 p.m. This event is sponsored by the community event partner, Sasquatch Strength in Kirkland. 

There will be three plunge sessions for the event. Ages 16 and older will Jump and Plunge at 1 p.m. Friends and Families (ages 5+) will make their Plunges at 1:20 p.m. and/or 1:40 p.m.

Advanced registration is $15 per person, which includes an event t-shirt while supplies last, or $5 without a shirt. Registration at the event will be $10, t-shirt not included. All ages are welcome, and an adult must accompany children 12 years old or younger.

As an alternative to taking a wintery plunge, community members can take a virtual plunge instead.  Registration for this cozy and warm option is $10, with proceeds benefitting the Recreation Scholarship Fund.

In addition to the plunges, the January Jump! Polar Bear Plunge will feature warm-up activities by Sasquatch Strength, vendor booths, cornhole, a best plunge costume contest, and a trivia activity. Kiwanis will provide complimentary coffee and cocoa.  Samples of free clam chowder will be provided by Ivar’s.  The Mini Dough Nut and The Cheese Pit food trucks will also be at the event.
