Case/Incident #2020-11116

Kirkland, WA – Just before 6:00 am this morning, Kirkland Police responded to a disturbance call at the Salish Village Condominiums located at 12450 NE 130th Ct. A neighbor reported hearing a possible gunshot and screaming from a unit in building F.  Officers arrived and attempted contact at the residence. The officers were met with an agitated male subject with a baseball bat who advised from inside the unit that he would shoot the officers. Officers believed they heard a shotgun being “racked” from inside the door. Officers had reason to believe one or two other persons may have also been inside with the male.

Officers maintained distance while the subject partially opened the door and threatened to shoot them.  Crisis negotiators were called to the scene along with North Sound Metro Swat. At one point, a male teen fled the rear of the unit to officers and advised he was the son of the male.  The son was unhurt and had not been threatened by his father who had been drinking. The son advised no other persons were inside the unit with his father. Later, officers on scene believed they heard a gunshot from inside the residence. Negotiators were continuing attempts to contact the subject to talk when the male suddenly appeared at the rear of the residence.  The subject had a pistol in his hand which he put down and then began walking away ignoring verbal commands being given to him.  Officers attempted to arrest the subject who then physically resisted. Despite the subjects continued resistance, officers were able to place the subject into custody with only minor injuries. Kirkland Police Detectives were obtaining a search warrant for the subject’s residence at the time of arrest and will continue the investigation this afternoon.  The subject will be charged with Assault First Degree and Felony Harassment. The Kirkland Police Department would like to thank the residents of Salish Village for their cooperation during this call which allowed officers to respond and handle the situation to a safe conclusion.
