On Monday, April 10, what began as an investigation into a suspicious vehicle, led Kirkland Police to make two arrests, recover a stolen truck, and find several stolen guns and other property.
Early Monday morning, when KPD nighttime officers were ending their shift, an officer saw a suspicious truck that had no license plates and a broken window in the parking lot of Fred Meyer. The officer saw two men near the truck who started to walk away when he approached the vehicle.
One of the men stopped and talked to police, and the second man tried to run away. After a short foot chase, officers discovered that the second man had a stolen gun tucked in his pants waistband. Both men were arrested and found to have criminal histories involving firearms.
Investigators discovered the truck had been stolen from Issaquah. A search of the vehicle found five stolen handguns, one stolen AR-15 style rifle, and a significant amount of other stolen property, believed to have been taken from victims in Kirkland and surrounding cities.
Investigation into these additional crimes uncovered video surveillance of the two men driving the stolen truck during a car prowl in Kirkland. The video also showed the men driving a second car, stolen from the Redmond area.
Police expect to file additional charges in this case when the investigation is complete.
