The City of Kirkland’s International Night Market has received a 2026 Program Spotlight Award for Innovative Programming (Population Under 100K) from the Washington Recreation and Park Association. The award recognizes outstanding creativity and community impact in parks and recreation and was presented on April 23, 2026, at the WRPA Annual Awards Banquet in Tacoma, Washington.

“The International Night Market is a celebration of the many people and communities that make Kirkland such a vibrant and welcoming city,” said Councilmember John Tymczyszyn. “It has created a space where culture, creativity, and connection come together in a meaningful way.”

Launched in 2025, the International Night Market brought the community together to share traditions from around the world. It featured a mix of local food vendors, live entertainment, and cultural experiences. Thousands of community members attended, leading to the event’s continuation in 2026.

“This recognition highlights the power of community-centered programming,” said Parks and Community Services Director Lynn Zwaagstra. “It’s great to see the community building rapport, celebrating different cultures, and enjoying being together in a fun and engaging environment.”

The International Night Market will return on Aug. 19, 2026, at Juanita Beach Park, with expanded opportunities for the community to participate. The City is currently seeking vendors, performers, and cultural resource organizations interested in participating in this year’s event. For more information or to get involved, visit www.kirklandwa.gov/communitybuildingevents.
