CM Pascal Appointed to Washington Transportation Improvement Board

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Kirkland City Councilmember Jon Pascal has been appointed to the Washington Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) by Washington State Department of Transportation Secretary Roger Millar. The TIB funds essential transportation projects throughout the state to enhance the movement of people, goods, and services.
“I’m honored to receive this appointment and excited to lend my experience and expertise to the important work of the Board,” said Councilmember Jon Pascal. “I have always admired the work of the TIB in assisting 320 communities fund their high priority transportation projects such as implementing complete street improvements, addressing important safety issues, or completing key sidewalk gaps. Kirkland has benefitted greatly from the TIB over the years, so I look forward to ensuring the agency continues to help advance safe and equitable transportation projects that benefit all users of the system.”
Councilmember Pascal will serve a 4-year term on the TIB representing the Association of Washington Cities. The agency is an independent organization that was formed by the State Legislature in 1988 to administer grant funds to local communities across the state. Three cents of the state gas tax funds the TIB and the agency has distributed nearly $3.5 billion in local transportation funds since being formed.
Councilmember Pascal has always had a passion for transportation and mobility. He currently serves on the City Council’s Transportation Ad Hoc Work Group, as an alternate on the Eastrail Regional Advisory Council, and on the Cooper Jones Active Transportation Safety Council. He also recently completed a 4-year term on the King County Regional Transit Committee.
Prior to his time on the Council, Councilmember Pascal was appointed by the Kirkland City Council to the Transportation Commission and served eight years as a Commissioner, two as Chair. During that time, he helped develop the City's first Active Transportation Plan and Complete Streets Ordinance.
Councilmember Pascal was elected to the Kirkland City Council in November 2017, having previously been appointed in 2016 when a seat was vacated.
