International Businesses Take a Look at Kirkland
Published on June 10, 2025
Kirkland has a long history of being business friendly and a hub of innovation. Recently, Kirkland joined surrounding cities and counties from across the Puget Sound Region to host a group of twenty-two international businesses from eight different countries as part of the SelectUSA Seattle Spinoff organized by the Greater Seattle Partners (GSP). GSP is a public-private partnership that supports regional efforts to attract global businesses, facilitate cross-sectoral connections, streamline site selection processes, and nurture investment and trade opportunities.
“Kirkland is the best place for business in the Puget Sound region, without a doubt. We are willing and able to assist businesses looking to make their mark in North America,” said Councilmember Penny Sweet who participated in the recent event.
This three-day initiative was designed to attract global business investments to the region to maintain and grow a diverse, thriving economy. The City of Kirkland was invited to be the first stop on the tour. On display were the incredible opportunities for investment in Kirkland’s growing NE 85th Station Area, Kirkland’s willingness and ability to work with and support businesses, and Kirkland’s welcoming community.
Companies in cleantech, artificial intelligence, aerospace, and more were introduced to the region as they explored a North American presence. Kirkland kicked off the visit with a panel of Kirkland businesses, including SRM Development, Lake Washington Institute of Technology, and Chargepoly. The Kirkland panel discussed the merits of investing in the region and specifically in Kirkland. A presentation on new opportunities and flexible zoning in the NE 85th Station Area gave attending businesses a chance to ask the City’s Planning and Building staff specific questions about working with the City of Kirkland.
“As we invite uncommon thinkers and innovators to Kirkland, this was the perfect opportunity to showcase the possibilities of the NE 85th Station Area. Kirkland is excited to welcome and support businesses in establishing a North American presence. Kirkland is the place to make your mark,” said Kirkland Mayor Kelli Curtis.
Kirkland’s participation in the SelectUSA Seattle Spinoff event showcased not only the City’s strategic location and development potential but also its collaborative spirit and readiness to welcome global innovation. As these international companies consider their next steps, Kirkland stands out as a dynamic, supportive, and forward-thinking community, ready to turn possibilities into progress.
