No Lifeguards on Duty Until at Least August 22

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Houghton Beach Park has been reopened for swimming, wading and other water activities as of August 16, by recommendation of Public Health – Seattle & King County. The beach had been closed to swimming for one week due to elevated bacteria levels.

Water quality staff from the King County Water and Land Resources Division tested the water this week and notified the City that the waters were again safe for recreational use. King County crews will return weekly to the beach throughout the summer to take samples to ensure that the water is safe. For additional details, visit King County’s Lake Swimming Beach Data webpage.

Due to an unanticipated staffing shortage, lifeguards will not be on duty at Houghton Beach Park through at least August 22.  Beach ambassadors will be on site at Houghton Beach Park, generally between 3 to 4 p.m. to provide customer service, lifejacket fittings, and first aid, and loaner lifejackets are available for swimmers.

Waverly Beach Park and Juanita Beach Park continue be open to water activities and will have lifeguards on duty from 12 to 6 p.m., seven days a week.
