KIRKLAND, Wash. – Houghton Beach will be closed for at least a week due to high levels of bacteria in Lake Washington.

Crews from the King County Water and Land Resources Division tested the water earlier this week and found that the levels of bacteria exceeded acceptable thresholds. King County crews will sample the beach next week. Houghton Beach will reopen when bacteria levels return to a safe range.

People and pets should not swim, drink lake water, or engage in other water-contact activities at Houghton Beach.

For more information, visit the King County Swim Beach Monitoring Program.

Updates about Houghton Beach will be posted to the City’s News Room webpage.
