Community Process Underway to Inspire a Wave of Creativity

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Did you miss the first call for Kirkland flag designs? You’re in luck! Whether you live in or just happen to love Kirkland, you have an opportunity to help create an official Kirkland flag. To give even more people the chance to make their mark on Kirkland’s future, the flag design portal has been briefly reopened between now and May 1, 2025.

“Kirkland is a community where everyone belongs, and everyone can contribute to this history-making moment. This flag may represent Kirkland for generations to come.” said Kirkland Mayor Kelli Curtis. “When you think of Kirkland, what comes to mind? Colors, shapes, and even concepts are all important to good flag design. We’re excited to see the imaginative ways the community’s flag designs embody what makes Kirkland a special place.”

Last year, the Kirkland City Council gave the go-ahead to create an official city flag through a fun, collaborative process with the community. That process is underway now. By participating, you can help foster a strong sense of identity and civic pride within Kirkland as well as contribute to Kirkland’s visibility in the region and beyond.

Creating your design is easy! You can use a computer, tablet, phone, or sketch your design on paper and snap a photo of it. It doesn’t need to be a professional rendering – the idea is what counts! Find helpful tips, design criteria, contest rules, and the submission link at kirklandwa.gov/flag.

The Kirkland Flag Learners Advisory Group (K-FLAG) is seeking information on what makes the community proud of Kirkland and what elements would best represent Kirkland in the future. This group will review designs, narrow down selections, and ultimately recommend options to the Kirkland City Council. Provide your feedback in this survey.
