The City of Kirkland and Energy Smart Eastside are hosting the Kirkland Heat Pump Workshop on Monday, May 18, 2026. The interactive event, which will take place from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Peter Kirk Community Center (352 Kirkland Ave.), will teach community members about the benefits of heat pumps. Workshop attendees will qualify for a special discount from AirGanic, a local heat pump contractor.

“We know sustainability is a priority for many Kirklanders, and residential heating is an area where individuals can have a major impact,” said City Councilmember Jay Arnold. “We’re excited for our community members to have the opportunity to learn about a high-efficiency, cost-effective heating and cooling option at the Kirkland Heat Pump Workshop.”

More than half (51%) of Kirkland’s greenhouse gas emissions come from energy use in residential and commercial buildings, and the single biggest driver is the heating and cooling of these spaces. With heat pumps, residents can improve the energy efficiency of their homes and reduce their carbon footprint. Not only are heat pumps cleaner compared to traditional gas furnaces, they provide both heat and air conditioning as well as filtering inside air.

Heat pumps can also reduce a household’s energy bills. To offset the costs of installation, Energy Smart Eastside has special rebates for residents of Kirkland and the program’s five other participating cities. These rebates can be combined with other utility incentives for thousands of dollars in savings on heat pumps.

The Energy Smart Eastside program launched in 2022 to connect residents in our region with the information, incentives, and resources they need to go electric. It is part of the Eastside Climate Partnership comprised of the Washington cities of Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Redmond, Mercer Island, and Sammamish. The partnership aims to reduce regional sources of climate pollution and advance collective sustainability.
