KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Kirkland City Council is recruiting interested community members to prepare the statements that would appear in the voters’ pamphlet both for and against a potential 2023 November General Election Parks and Recreation ballot measure.

The deadline to apply has been extended to 4:00 p.m., Friday, July 14, 2023.

Interested community members should contact the Kirkland City Clerk’s Office at (425) 587-3197 or cityclerk@kirklandwa.gov for more information on the committees and how to apply. The City Council may make the Committee appointments at their next regular meeting on July 18, 2023.

The Council has not yet approved legislation to place a Parks and Recreation measure on the November ballot, but may consider doing so at their July 18, 2023, regular meeting. Given the tight timelines required by King County Elections that would result, the Council felt it prudent to begin recruitment for potential Pro and Con statement committee members.

The committees, which would consist of no more than three members each, would each prepare statements limited to 200 words. The “Statement For” and the “Statement Against” would appear in the King County Local Voters’ Pamphlet for the November 7, 2023, General Election. Arguments would be submitted to King County Elections no later than 4:30 p.m., August 8, 2023.

Arguments prepared by the Pro and Con Committees would be made available to the opposing committees for rebuttal after the August 8, 2023, deadline. Rebuttal statements, which are optional, would then be submitted no later than 4:30 p.m., August 10, 2023.
