KIRKLAND, Wash. – The community is invited to a town hall on the future use of the Houghton Village Property on March 6 at 6 p.m. The City purchased the Houghton Village Shopping Center, located at 10702 NE 68th Street, to support a variety of potential public purposes, such as affordable housing, school space, non-profit program space, arts and cultural space, and/or City recreational program space. Before decisions are made on how to redevelop the property, the City Council would like to hear from the community on how best to achieve these public benefits while also creating a thriving, walkable, sustainable retail development.

“Redeveloping the Houghton Village Property offers the City a strategic opportunity to accomplish multiple important community benefits all within a walkable ten-minute neighborhood with frequent transit service,” said Deputy Mayor Jay Arnold. “It will enhance the vibrancy of our community by providing a mixture of options to live and work near neighborhood businesses and services. This is an exciting opportunity for community members to have their voices heard about how we might accomplish the City’s goals for this space.”

The City Council will consider next steps on any redevelopment planning process in May 2023. To help inform the City Council’s decision, the community will be able to participate in a town hall and small group meetings over the coming months. The first opportunity will be a hybrid community meeting on March 6, 2023, beginning at 6 p.m., with the option to attend in person at City Hall or online. Although not required, those interested in attending are encouraged to register in advance to receive reminder emails about the meeting: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/houghton-village-community-forum-tickets-541727711167
