On Wednesday, August 24 regional representatives and partners came together in Woodinville to celebrate the $29 million committed investment in the Eastrail project. When complete, the Eastrail will link Renton to Snohomish County with a 42-mile long pedestrian and bike trail. The new investment is part of the "Move Ahead Washington" transportation package and will fund portions of the trail yet to built or not yet connected to the existing trail.  Kirkland's portion of the Eastrail is the beloved Cross Kirkland Corridor.

Present at the event was State Senator Marko Liias, State Representatives Vandana Slatter and Jake Fey, Kirkland Mayor Penny Sweet and Councilmembers Jon Pascal and Neal Black, Woodinville Mayor Mike Millman, Redmond Mayor Angela Birney, Executive Director of Eastrail Partners Katherine Hollis, and many more representatives and transportation committee members.

Earlier in August, the Eastrail opened a new section linking the Cross Kirkland Corridor and the Sammamish River Trail and connecting Kirkland and Woodinville with a continuous trail for the first time.
