KIRKLAND, Wash. – Featuring the first synthetic turf field at a City park, a new all-abilities playground, and two new picnic shelters, 132nd Square Park has been completely renovated and is ready for all to enjoy!  Come celebrate the grand re-opening of this wonderful 10-acre community park in the Evergreen Hill neighborhood of Kirkland on Saturday, July 15 from noon to 3 p.m.

“Our community loves our parks, and the City prides itself on providing a variety of opportunities for our community to play, relax, and connect with family and friends,” said Deputy Mayor Jay Arnold. “We’re very excited to reopen this beloved park with many new and fun features for all to enjoy.”

Highlights of the renovated park include:

  • First synthetic turf multi-use field at a City park
  • All-abilities playground with swings, a zip-line and sledding hill
  • Two new picnic shelters
  • Expanded parking with drop-off zone
  • Bigger restrooms with drinking fountains and bottle filling station
  • A new labyrinth and reflexology path
  • New public artwork “Individually We Transform, Together We Soar” by Cobalt Designworks
  • More than 115 trees, native plants and shrubs to help filter water runoff
  • New underground stormwater facility that treats rainwater resulting in cleaner water entering Totem Lake and Juanita Creek

“132nd Square Park is for everyone, and we’re eager for the community to experience it,” said Parks and Community Services Department Director Lynn Zwaagstra. “From the new field striped for multiple sports and all-abilities playground, to a labyrinth and reflexology path for quiet contemplation, there is something for everyone.”

In addition to new park amenities, the redevelopment of 132nd Square Park aligned with a stormwater project to install a concrete vault underneath parks’ new synthetic turf field.  The vault can treat and absorb the stormwater of 48.25 acres and was funded in part through a $3.57 million Washington State Department of Ecology grant and a $1.10 million King County Flood Control District grant.
