Kraken Iceplex and Community Center, December 2, 2025
On December 9, 2025, the City Council approved Resolution R-5704 to move forward with a public-private partnership to create the Kraken Iceplex and Community Center at the former Houghton Park & Ride site.
The Seattle Kraken will pay for and construct the new facility that includes:
- Two NHL-regulation ice rinks
- A City-operated community center
- A full-service public restaurant
- A team store
- Space for community programs, events, and activities
The project will deliver a new, year-round community destination that combines recreation, economic development, and public amenities — with no new taxes. The agreements between the City and Seattle Kraken ensure public protections for the duration of the partnership and ultimate City ownership at the end of the 34-year lease.
