Councilmember Dave Asher has served on the Kirkland City Council since January 2000. Prior to serving on the City Council, Council Member Asher was the Chair of the North Rose Hill Neighborhood Association and co-chair of the Kirkland Alliance of Neighborhoods. Councilmember Asher has continued his broad community involvement by maintaining active membership of numerous regional, civic, and community organizations.
Current City Council committee assignments: Finance & Administration Committee, Planning & Economic Development Committee, and Transportation Ad-Hoc Work Group.
Regional representation: Eastside Human Services Forum Board, Sound Cities Association (SCA) Regional Transit Committee (RTC) and Mental Illness and Drug Dependency (MIDD) Oversight Committee. Councilmember Asher is also active in the Kirkland Nourishing Network, and was honored as Advocacy All-Star by the Association of Washington Cities in June 2017, for his efforts to advance the city agenda related to homelessness and housing through advocacy and legislative testimony.
About Councilmember Asher: Councilmember Asher earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Science Degree in Logistics Management from the Florida Institute of Technology. He is a graduate of the Eastside Leadership Institute and was awarded the Institute’s Distinguished Alumni award. Councilmember Asher is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel having served in the regular Army for 21 years as an aviator, infantryman, and long-range planning officer. He retired from the University of Washington where he was the CFO for UW's Professional and Continuing Education. Councilmember Asher has lived in Kirkland since 1993 and is active in the Kiwanis Club of Kirkland and the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce.
