WHAT: Kirkland will be closing 111th Avenue Northeast, just north of Northeast 141st Street, for 21 days in spring 2019 while contracted crews replace a failing 48-inch steel stormwater pipe with a 12-foot-wide concrete box culvert. The City will establish a detour route around the work site. The existing pipe is clogged with sediment, which reduces the flow of water through the pipe. This allows the sediment to pile up, eroding Juanita Creek’s bank and undermining its trees. It also prevents fish from migrating upstream. The new box culvert will alleviate these dynamics and allow fish to migrate from one side of the culvert to the other side.
WHEN: The construction window is between June 2019 - November 2019. The window for the 21-day closure is mid-July to September.
WHAT TO EXPECT: The contractor will establish a detour route around the closed section of 111th Avenue Northeast. Northeast 141st Street will remain open.
The contractor will maintain access for local residents, mail delivery, garbage pick-up and emergency vehicles.
