Kirkland, Wash – Kirkland Police Chief Cherie Harris announced this morning that the department has initiated a formal investigation to determine whether officers that responded to a call for suspicious activity at a Menchie’s frozen yogurt franchise in the Totem Lake neighborhood of Kirkland acted in accordance with department protocol.

“Kirkland prides itself on being a safe, welcoming and inclusive community, and we take allegations of racial profiling very seriously,” said Chief Cherie Harris. “It’s important not to draw conclusions before all the facts have been examined. The Kirkland Police department has already initiated an investigation of the incident to determine if proper protocol was followed.”

The City of Kirkland will issue additional information after the internal investigation has been completed. The police reportlinks to external site from the incident is available online, as is the 911 calllinks to external site that was placed by the owner of the Kirkland Menchie’s.
