Fire water rescueAfter completing both the recruit academy and the EMT program, probationary firefighters will be assigned to work the 48/96 hour shift schedule.  After completing their first year of employment, firefighters will be eligible to begin a career development program and/or apply for specialty teams.  

These career development opportunities include: 

  • Aid Car Lead EMT
  • Engine Driver/Operator 
  • Acting Officer (AO)
  • Lieutenant
  • Captain
  • Battalion Chief

  • Hazardous Materials Team
  • Water Rescue Team which includes:
    • Water Rescue Operations Level
    • Water Rescue Technician Level
    • Rapid Diver program
    • Water Rescue Craft Driver
  • Wildland Fire Team
  • Ladder Truck Driver/Operator which includes:
    • Trench Rescue Technician
    • Rope Rescue Technician 
    • Confined Space Rescue Technician
  • Fire Investigator 
  • Fire Prevention Bureau Inspector
