The City of Kirkland is seeking representatives for two vacancies on the Tourism Development Committee (TDC). Organizations involved in activities to collect lodging tax revenue are invited to propose representatives for appointment to the Committee.
The TDC is appointed by the Kirkland City Council for the purpose of advising the Council on allocating the lodging excise tax fund for tourism promotion and is comprised of seven voting members. State statute establishes the specific makeup of the committee, which consists of one member of the Kirkland City Council (who serves as chair), three representatives from organizations representing businesses required to collect the lodging tax, and three representatives of organizations involved in activities authorized to be funded by lodging tax revenue or local agencies involved in tourism promotion. Membership terms of the advisory committee are reviewed annually by the City Council. The Committee generally meets monthly or as needed.
Beginning in 2002, a one percent excise tax has been collected on charges for lodging and motel room fees and goes into the lodging tax fund for the purposes of tourism promotion, acquisition, or operation of tourism related facilities. For further information about the TDC, please contact Lorrie McKay, Intergovernmental Relations and Economic Development Manager, firstname.lastname@example.org, (425) 587-3009.
The City Council adopted a Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics which all appointed Board and Commission members are asked to sign.
Tourism Development Committee applications must be submitted to Kathi Anderson, City Clerk, 123 5th Ave, Kirkland WA 98033 or email@example.com.
The Tourism Development Committee position is open until filled.
