Neighborhood Sign Replacement Project

Published on September 19, 2022

In May 2021, City staff provided the City Council with options for replacing several of the wooden neighborhood signs that are beyond meaningful maintenance and need to be replaced.  Staff sought Council’s preference on whether to use the existing design or to explore an alternative design.  Council indicated a preference to use the existing design for the current sign replacement project.

Throughout June and July of last year, staff inventoried each of the neighborhood signs.  Staff applied technical criteria to each sign, including such factors as:

  • Pieces missing
  • Delamination
  • Bowing / Leaning
  • Paint Chipped / Faded
  • Dry Rot
  • Number in the neighborhood
  • Street Classification per the Transportation Master Plan

Based on that criteria, staff sought bids for a sign vendor to replace the signs in greatest need for replacement.  Over the last several months, the vendor has been designing and fabricating the signs.  Below are all the signs being replaced in this project that will be installed in the next few months of 2022:

  • Downton Kirkland -NE 85th and 114th Ave
  • Lakeview - Lake Wash Blvd and Lakeview
  • South Rose Hill - NE 70th and 116th
  • Kirkland - Lake Wash Blvd. and Northup
