On Saturday, August 13, 2022, a suspect was arrested in California in connection with a violent domestic assault on a Kirkland resident in July.

On July 29, 2022, a Kirkland resident was violently assaulted by a vehicle in the parking lot of a retail store in a neighboring jurisdiction. Following the assault, the resident was repeatedly victimized by the suspect who made unwanted phone calls threatening to kill the victim and the victim’s children.

The KPD Domestic Violence (DV) Unit assisted the victim and the victim’s family by providing temporary safe housing, Domestic Violence Advocacy services, and frequent patrols of the victim’s residence as the suspect was being sought.

Detective Kaufman from the KPD DV Unit developed intelligence that the suspect had fled to Bakersfield, California, and was able to coordinate with outside police agencies as to the possible location of the suspect.

As a result, the suspect was arrested last Saturday by detectives from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office TAGNET (Tulare Area Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team) Unit, who apprehended the suspect under a felony warrant issued by the King County Prosecutor’s Office.

The KPD DV Unit and detectives shared intelligence and quickly developed partnerships with outside jurisdictions that resulted in the apprehension of this violent Domestic Assault suspect.

KPD extends its gratitude to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office who assisted in this case.
