Community Invited to Participate in Kirkland’s Recreation Scholarship Fundraising Campaign on Giving Tuesday

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Community members can make a difference in the lives of their neighbors by contributing to the Kirkland Parks & Community Services Recreation Scholarship Fund on Giving Tuesday, November 30, 2021. The Recreation Program Fund makes available scholarships of various amounts to Kirkland residents who qualify based on income for the City’s recreation programs.

“The Recreation Scholarship Fund supports Kirkland residents of all ages and abilities with the opportunity to participate in the City’s diverse and high-quality recreation programs, despite any barriers of income,” said Councilmember Toby Nixon. “By contributing to the City’s Recreation Scholarship Fund, you will be making a meaningful difference in the lives of your fellow Kirkland neighbors.  Your donation could help a child learn to swim or attend summer camp, aid a teen in participating in outdoor recreation, and allow a senior adult to enjoy an exciting day trip.”

To donate, visit www.kirklandparks.net and choose the “SCHOLARSHIP FUND” tile, which has a light green underline.  To be a business partner in the Recreation Scholarship fundraising campaign, please contact Maryke Burgess, Recreation Supervisor, at 425-587-3386 or mburgess@kirklandwa.gov

The Kirkland Parks & Community Services Facebook page will dedicate the day to Giving Tuesday. The City also invites local businesses to join in the social media campaign.

“This scholarship helps ensure that everyone in our community, regardless of income, feels like they belong and can participate in these enriching programs,” said Councilmember Nixon.

For questions about the campaign or about the Recreation Scholarship Program, please contact Maryke Burgess, Recreation Supervisor, at 425-587-3386 or mburgess@kirklandwa.gov
