KIRKLAND, Wash. – The City of Kirkland remains open for in-person services but is encouraging community members to access City services through remote options in January in order to help slow the current surge of COVID-19 brought on by the omicron variant.

“Throughout the pandemic, we have aimed to provide excellent customer service while balancing the health and safety of our community and staff,” said City Manager Kurt Triplett. “With the recent surge in COVID cases brought on by the omicron variant, we are asking that community members connect with City services online if they are able to. We offer safe and convenient online and over-the-phone options for most City services, including bill paying and development permits.  This can save our residents and businesses time and money while also helping slow the spread of this recent COVID wave.”

Most City services were made available online and remotely throughout the pandemic.  Information on remote options for specific services can be found on each City Department’s website. City facilities will remain open during regular hours for in-person services, and community members without technology access can still come to City Hall and other facilities as needed.

Community members entering City facilities are asked to abide by the following guidelines:

  • Members of the public are required to wear a face covering in all City facilities to protect the health and wellbeing of staff and visitors.  Reusable masks are available at all City facilities for community members to use and keep.  City staff are required to wear face coverings while interacting with the public and with other staff members.
  • When entering City facilities, everyone is asked to do a quick, contactless temperature check, review the COVID symptom list, and wear a mask. Even if community members are fully vaccinated, the City asks you take this extra step to help protect staff and visitors that might not be vaccinated. Reusable masks are available at building entrances.
  • Please keep six feet of social distancing when in City facilities.

The City continues additional efforts to keep facilities clean, including providing extra janitorial services, having hand sanitizer available, and providing staff with cleaning supplies for use.  Also, some service counters have clear shields between staff and guests, and all City staff will be wearing face coverings during public interactions.

“We know that accessing our remote services does not always work for everyone,” said Triplett.  “For those that need to come in for City services, we welcome you.  But if you have the option for remote access, we are encouraging you to please consider that option, at least for the next few weeks.”

The City will continue to update the City’s website.
