KIRKLAND, Wash. – The City of Kirkland, the Celebrate Kirkland Leadership Team, and the Kirkland Downtown Association (KDA) would like to invite the community to enjoy a virtual “Celebrate Kirkland” this year and look forward to the return of the regular Celebrate Kirkland 4th of July in 2022. The virtual Celebrate Kirkland 4th of July video production will be available for viewing on Sunday, July 4 starting at 8 a.m. on the City Facebook page, the Kirkland Television YouTube channel, the KGOV Stream, Comcast Cable Channel 21 and Ziply Cable Channel 31.

Earlier this year, the KDA and the Celebrate Kirkland Leadership Team made the difficult decision to postpone this year’s festivities due to the uncertainties surrounding public events and gatherings. Trying to plan a large scale community event amidst the everchanging environment of COVID health and safety restrictions presented insurmountable challenges to the small team of volunteers that coordinates the event.

“While it broke our hearts to forego another Celebrate Kirkland event, we are beyond excited to start planning next year’s dramatic comeback,” said Mayor Penny Sweet. “We are so grateful for the resilience of our amazing community and hope that everyone finds a way to ‘Celebrate Kirkland’ this 4th of July.”

To enjoy this year’s virtual celebration, choose your favorite viewing platform and prepare for a fun and patriotic video experience featuring highlights from the last several years of Celebrate Kirkland parades. The video honors our veterans and shines a spotlight on the City’s neighborhood associations, arts commissioners, elected officials, service organizations, classic car and hot rod enthusiasts, business leaders, and our amazing community members, plus a spectacular display of fireworks over Lake Washington captured in years past.

Please remember, in accordance with Kirkland Municipal Code Chapter 11.60, the sale, possession and discharge of personal fireworks are prohibited in Kirkland city limits. Kirkland’s fireworks ban went into effect in 1999 to help eliminate property damage, injury, and fires, and to protect the natural beauty of our region. In general, public fireworks displays are allowed when properly permitted by the Kirkland Fire Department, though year’s traditional 4th of July fireworks display is cancelled. In observation of Independence Day, City administrative services normally accessible through email, the Our Kirkland Customer Service portal, and over the phone, will not be available on Monday, July 5. City customer service staff will be back during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) on Tuesday, July 6, to assist customers and answer questions via email or phone.
